AU PAIR IN THE USA

An Au Pair is an international legal visitor who lives in the United States as an extended member of their Host Family. These young men and women provide child care services in exchange for room, board, a weekly stipend, and contributions towards education. Most au pairs participate in the Au Pair Program for the valuable cultural experience of living with an American family and are treated more as a member of the family then an employee. Au pairs can be from any foreign country except those which the U.S. does not have diplomatic relations.
 
Requirements to be an Au Pair:
    • Must be between the ages of 18 and 26
    • Must have graduated from secondary school of the equivalent
    • Must be proficient in English
    • Non-family related child-care experience
    • Non-smoker
    • Must get International driver's license before arrival
    • Must not have been an Au Pair in the United States previously
 
It is impossible to accept Au Pairs who have children, a criminal record, or major health problems. Male applicants are also very difficult to place as traditionally, families prefer females. Chances for placement are increased, if the applicant can demonstrate significant factors in addition to the basic requirements.
 
Au Pair includes:
    • Provide up to 45 hours of childcare per week, but no more than 10 hours per day
    • Provide quality childcare
    • Help children get ready for the days activities
    • Assist with general child-related chores, such as laundry, tidying the children's bedrooms and play areas, and food preparation for the children
    • Driving the children between home, school and other activities
    • Willing to become a member of the Host Family for 12 months!
What does Au Pair receive?
    • Legal visa for 12 months plus 1 additional month for travel
    • A minimum weekly stipend of $195,75
    •  At least 1 1/2 consecutive days off per week, at least one weekend off per month, and two weeks paid vacation
    • A private bedroom and meals
    • Up to $500 ($250  - for summer program) for tuition/school money (paid by Host Family)
    • Medical insurance
    • Free round-trip ticket from one of the designated European airports
    • Increase in fluency of the English language.
Required documents:
    • Completed application form
    • Cover Sheet
    • Letter to Host Family
    • At least 2 related childcare references and at least 1 non-related character reference
    • Copies of diploma, school certificates and first aid certificates (if you have any)
    • Criminal background check
    • Phisician's report
    • A copy of your driver's license
    • A copy of your passport
    • Psychometric test
    • Pictures (passport-sized photo and a selection of photographs of yourself with you family and with the children you have looked after)
    • Au Pair agreement
    • Must obtain a J1 Cultural Exchange visa
AU PAIR PLUS
Through Au Pair Plus program you will have the opportunity to learn about the United States in the best way possible, living and working with a US family.
 
The Au Pair Plus Program is for au pairs that have lived abroad as an au pair for at least one year before applying to be an au pair in the USA. These au pairs receive a higher weekly stipend for their child care duties - $215.
PREMIERE AU PAIR
The Premiere Program is for au pairs with professional training or at least 2 years of full time child care experience and to be at least 20 years old. These au pairs receive a weekly stipend of $255 for their child care duties.
 
SUMMER AU PAIR

Want to take see the United States during your summer break from school? The Summer Program a wonderful option! Through Summer program you will have the opportunity to learn about the United States in the best way possible, living and working with a US family. This program is for four months from 15 May till 15 September and you receive the same weekly stipend as a full year au pair.
Host families provide a weekly stipend of $157.95 and room and board and up to $250 towards completing 3 semester credits of education courses.
 
Upon receipt of the placement confirmation, Au Pair needs to pay completion security deposit $300 ($100 for Summer program) and add on airfare. After successful completion of the 12-month program, the deposit is refunded.
